Content marketing, what is it exactly? Well from the dictionary we get the following.

 a type of marketing that involves the creation and sharing of online material (such as videos, blogs, and social media posts) that does not explicitly promote a brand but is intended to stimulate interest in its products or services.

To be effective, content marketing needs to provide value to the reader.  This value is not necessarily monetary value.  Rather a perceived value perhaps for entertainment, or to solve a problem the reader may have.  It should provide enough value that they will return to your site in the future. The repeated visits are what your goal is.

Helps you to build authority and credibility

The content should be related to your business and to your brand. This positions you as the market expert and gives your readers a reason why they should choose you over your competitors. However, the content should not be the “Hey Look at me, look what I can do” type but rather coming from contribution, “here’s a common problem and here’s how you solve it”.

Develops lasting relationships with your audience

Your content should also form the beginnings of and build a lasting relationship with your client.  The content should give them a reason to come back.  The problems solved thru your content should be real problems encountered in the real world and legitimate solutions. Complete solutions with pictures if necessary.  Remember. The majority of the people really don’t want to do it themselves, but they want, need to know that you are legit.

Improves lead generation

Valuable content over time will build good solid SEO (See below for SEO) results which will help your customers find you.  When you first create your online presence, Google (and other search engines) don’t know who you are or what you do.  The more content you give them, the better they (the search engines) can rank you.  The better you rank the easier it is for the consumer to find you. The easier it is to find you the better your lead generation will be.
